Name of exercise  PROM shld ER/IR
Other names of exercise PROM shld ER/IR
Description of exercise PROM (passive range of motion) shoulder external rotation/internal rotation exercises are used to improve the flexibility and mobility of the shoulder joint. These exercises involve moving the arm in a circular motion, either outwards (external rotation) or inwards (internal rotation). They are typically performed with the assistance of a physical therapist or using a pulley system to gently stretch the muscles and ligaments around the shoulder joint. These exercises can help to increase the range of motion in the shoulder, improve shoulder stability, and prevent stiffness or pain. They are commonly used in rehabilitation programs for shoulder injuries or after surgery to help restore full shoulder function.
Do each time for how long Do this for 10 times, or do as many times instructed by your doctor.

    When to avoid this exercise

  • PROM (passive range of motion) exercises for shoulder external rotation (ER) and internal rotation (IR) should be avoided in certain situations to prevent further injury or discomfort. These exercises should be avoided if the patient has an acute shoulder injury, such as a rotator cuff tear or shoulder dislocation, as they can aggravate the injury and delay healing. Additionally, if the patient is experiencing severe pain or inflammation in the shoulder, PROM exercises should be avoided until the pain and inflammation have subsided. Patients with joint instability or a history of shoulder instability should also avoid these exercises, as they can further destabilize the joint. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any exercise program for the shoulder to avoid potential complications.
  • Precautions

As per several scientific studies, some precautions need to be taken while doing this exercise such as(ME/2)

  • Warm up properly before starting the exercise
  • Use proper form and technique
  • Start with low resistance and gradually increase as tolerated
  • Do not force the joint beyond its normal range of motion
  • Stop if you experience pain or discomfort
  • Keep the movement slow and controlled
  • Avoid jerky or sudden movements
  • Do not hold your breath during the exercise
  • Use a stable chair or surface for support
  • Consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or medical conditions.
