Description of exercise Drinking facilitation infant exercise is a method used to train infants to drink from a cup or bottle. This exercise involves helping the infant to hold the cup or bottle, guiding them to tilt it towards their mouth, and supporting their head and neck while they drink. It also includes gradually reducing the amount of support provided as the infant becomes more independent in drinking. This exercise helps infants develop their motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and oral muscles, while also promoting independence and self-feeding. It is an important step in transitioning from breast or bottle feeding to independent drinking and is typically introduced around 6-9 months of age.

    When to avoid this exercise

  • Drinking facilitation infant exercise should be avoided in the following situations:When the infant is sick or has a fever: Exercising while sick can put additional strain on the body and may worsen the illness.
  • When the infant has just eaten: It is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes after a feeding before engaging in any physical activity to prevent discomfort and possible regurgitation.
  • When the infant is overly tired: Infants need plenty of rest and sleep for their growth and development. Trying to exercise when they are exhausted can be counterproductive and may lead to crankiness and irritability.
  • When the infant is showing signs of discomfort or pain: If the infant is crying, fussing, or seems uncomfortable, it is best to postpone the exercise and address any potential issues first.
  • When the weather is too hot or cold: Extreme temperatures can be dangerous for infants, so it is best to avoid exercising outdoors in extreme weather conditions. In summary, it is important to listen to the infant’s cues and avoid exercising if they are not feeling well or seem uncomfortable. Always consult with a pediatrician before starting any new exercise routine for infants.
