Description of exercise | The IT band ankle cross stretch is a simple yet effective exercise that targets the iliotibial (IT) band, a thick band of tissue that runs along the outside of the thigh. This stretch specifically focuses on the IT band’s connection to the ankle, helping to improve flexibility and reduce tension in the lower body. To perform this stretch, you start by crossing one foot over the opposite knee and then gently pulling the ankle towards the opposite shoulder. This creates a stretch along the side of the thigh and down the outside of the leg. Hold this position for 30 seconds and then switch sides. Regularly incorporating this stretch into your routine can help alleviate IT band tightness and improve overall lower body mobility. |
