Description of exercise Lord Vishnu couch exercise is a popular yoga pose that is inspired by the reclining posture of Lord Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation and balance. This exercise is also known as Supta Virasana and is often practiced in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga classes. To perform this exercise, one needs to sit on their heels and slowly lower their back to the ground, while keeping their arms stretched above their head. This pose helps to open up the chest and shoulders, improve posture, and increase flexibility in the spine. It is also believed to calm the mind and relieve stress and anxiety. The name of this exercise is derived from the Sanskrit words “supta” meaning reclining, “vira” meaning hero, and “asana” meaning pose.

  • Lie on side, and rest head on hand as shown.
  • Bend other knee and grasp big toe with hand.
  • Straighten knee while lifting leg upward.
  • Hold, lower and repeat lying on other side.
