This exercise primarily targets the muscles in the legs, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes. It also engages the core muscles for stability and balance. The non-reciprocating movement means that one leg is doing all the work while the other leg provides assistance and support. This exercise can be modified by using a lower or higher step, as well as adding weights for an extra challenge. Stair stepping up with assistance is a great way to improve leg strength, balance, and coordination.
